Brendan, that was a really tricky question! The distance from earth to Mars varies from 36 million miles to 250 million miles. The varitation is due to the pattern of the orbit of Mars around the sun. Mars is the closest planet to Earth after Venus. We found the answer on Google search.

Do Stars really twinkle? What do you think? We have been looking at the shadows and talking about the path the earth takes through the galaxy. We had to decide whether it was the earth moving around the sun or the sun moving around the earth. Some fantastic people in Room 3 remembered about the model they had seen with the space dome. We have measured our shadows and tracked their movement through the day. Now we are thinking about our star, the sun, and other important constellations in the galaxy. Talk about it with you children and come up with some really good questions that need to be answered. Write you questions here and we will see if we can answer them.

Would you like to see some of the shadow pictures that the children took around the school?

Our Next Unit

We have loved working on our Healthy Food topic and have just about finished it. I hope the children have been bringing home lots of ideas for using vegetables. We are looking forward to next spring and already talking about what we are going to plant in our garden this year. We need some rotten silage and/or hay to build it up. Does any parent have some? I would be willing to collect it if you do.

Term 2

Back to work and already two weeks have gone past. In week 2 our dear old friend Harold was back to visit us. I don't know about him, he never seems to get any older and remains as wise as he always was. This week we are following Harold's advice and really looking into healthy eating to make us fit for life. I have been looking for comments on our blog and thanks to the Senior syndicate for making one. When Rachel returns as parent help, we will write a very long answer to your question.

Back in Business

Well, we are back in business after some measures to protest our blog from unwelcome comments. Please read you newsletter for these. The term is coming to a close with a bang in more ways than one. Last Thursday we had a great day experimenting with different rockets. We were using language like meterorites, asteroids, space junk, atmosphere, fuel, energy, thrust, etc. This week we will design and build a landing craft to protect our human(egg) when landing on the moon.

Rockets

Rocket day. Experimenting with all types of power and was it fun?????? OF COURSE
